Psionicists are better, but this is a worthy compromise...

I Am A: Neutral Good Elf Mage

Neutral Good characters believe in the power of good above all else. They will work to make the world a better place, and will do whatever is necessary to bring that about, whether it goes for or against whatever is considered 'normal'.

Elves are the eldest of all races, although they are generally a bit smaller than humans. They are generally well-cultured, artistic, easy-going, and because of their long lives, unconcerned with day-to-day activities that other races frequently concern themselves with. Elves are, effectively, immortal, although they can be killed. After a thousand years or so, they simply pass on to the next plane of existance.

Mages harness the magical energies for their own use. Spells, spell books, and long hours in the library are their loves. While often not physically strong, their mental talents can make up for this.

I wonder if the initial inventor of the 5.25" floppy disk chose the size because he was poorly endowed.

And if so, what poor bastard invented the 3.5" floppy?!

Hahaha *dorky laugh* *snort* *blush* *hides*...

The Philly Flop, as it were [17 Aug 2003|03:47am]
Today's plans were set. [info]kason and I had the trip prepared and ready. Misfortune, however, struck. My mom needed to rush to work early in the morning, leaving me with no car. The Port Authority was closed in the morning, leaving us with no alternative transportation except the train. The train was too expensive.

The result: Three girls who actually did manage to get to Philly will probably dislike me (at least a little bit) come September 20th, when Orientation begins.

Hopefully, I can win their favour back with my magnetic charm and addictive personality. [/sarcasm]

I SAW TIMES SQUARE TURN OFF! [15 Aug 2003|01:12am]
You heard right! I was there. I will post pictures and a complete detailed story of my exploits and travails with [info]kason, my college roomie, on his well-timed visit to the city that never sleeps...when the lights went out.

Check back on Friday, August 15th, at ~ 3 or 4 PM for pictures.

By the way, the blackout was really hyped up on the news. It's not that big of a deal, and I kind of enjoyed the homeliness of a 3 million person street party.

[info]kason rocks...in a Texan, southern-twangy kind of way... [12 Aug 2003|10:14pm]
[ mood | exhausted ]
[ music | Deep Forest - WhileThe Earth's Sleeping ]

He just does. Today was his first day in my beloved NYC. Sadly, I could not show him the plentiful splendors of said city appropriately because I was tired from 2 hours of sleep the night before (or lack of the 6 other hours required for proper functioning). We ended up walking around the city aimlessly, specifically around Chelsea and the West Village and a small part of SoHo.

Tomorrow, we're off to see Rent and to the Upright Citizens' Brigade theatre. Should be fun, especially after mindless tinkering with cool potential dorm furniture at IKEA and spending an hour or so working on a dorm furnishing list.

Anyhow, I've got this major work project to finish which is driving me nuts, and I'm so tired right now. It's due Thursday. Must finish...later...

From The Archives: [08 Aug 2003|01:06am]
The Hidden Bond Between Joyce and his Readers

“We are still learning to be James Joyce’s contemporaries.” Ê(“James”, Ellman, 1) James Augustine Aloysius Joyce, born 2 February 1882 in Dublin Ireland, son of a tax collector, John Stanislaus, and a pianist, Mary Jane, permanently and radically changed the face of naturalistic fiction. ÊHis influence is unavoidable even in modern popular culture. ÊAs a result of his genius in relentless tinkering and careful experimentation with the formal structure, perspective, narrative tone, diction, and overall style of the novel, as well as his ability to produce specific details that represent universal situations, Joyce revolutionized the role of the reader. ÊIn these ways he pioneered the active, vigorous reader characteristic of modernism, forever changing the passive nature of the realistic reader. ÊMost of his complex characters are revealed to the reader through the narrator’s style or tone, as opposed to the traditional descriptions found in realism. ÊAdditionally, he is in no small part responsible for the shift in aesthetics in the late 20 th century, making sexually explicit imagery acceptable in literature. ÊHis experimentation began with Dubliners and Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man and reached its apex in Ulysses and Finnegan’s Wake .

on scheduling [07 Aug 2003|03:59am]
[ mood | exhausted ]
[ music | [the art of silence] ]

Planning a week of fun activities in advance is a royal pain in the ass. I've come to realize this after my two hours of roaming about ticket sites and comparing itineraries with friends, and mass-mailing a whole slew of locals for suggestions and invitation to join us.

My roommate, [info]kason, is coming over for a week. The morning he arrives turns out to be the morning after my all-night-long coding session planned initially to get a project done. I guess that sucks royally. But, my planning seems to be very fruitful so far.

... three Palm/iCal Hot-Syncs later ...

Okay, all the evenings are booked. Perfect, we won't be bored any of the days he's here after 7PM. I've got stuff going on from a Central Park concert to Rent to comedy clubs... Except for early afternoons -- those are pretty much open and free for schedule flux. Friday during the day we've got nothing. Monday morning, we're heading over to Philly to visit a UPENN friend, then coming back to NYC around 2200 for a kick-ass club Kason chose. Who says logistics aren't fun! Tuesday he's off, back to Texas...land of the...uhh...sand?

See you soon, Kason. If anyone reading wants to join us or can suggest a venue, please...please...respond/comment!

Meanwhile, after running 9 miles yesterday, 7 today, and 2 the day before yesterday, I'm pooped. It's time to get some rest, and Third Watch just ended.

It was purely an appeal to Sean Connery's personal insecurities. So disappointing. If it turns into a series, or a trilogy, I'd be very much pissed.

Boring and predictable.

do you *really* need a 75MHz calculator? [04 Aug 2003|08:43am]
[ mood | annoyed ]
[ music | Hooverphonic - Out of Tune ]

HPCalc is advertising a new high-end calculator (for those of you who read Slashdot). It's got a 75MHz ARM9 processor, IrDA compatibility, 128x80 pixel display (about Palm-sized?), can emulate its predecessors' CPU architecture, and this is the real kicker -- a USB port! But wait, there's more -- it's got a slot for SD media (and SDIO/WiFi)...dear G-d.

If you're going to use a calculator, it's going to be (99.99999% of the time) for graphing a function, or doing simple arithmetic. If you're going to do anything that requires a 75MHz processor, wouldn't you be better off just flipping open your gigahertz laptop? What kind of moron buys these pathetic calculators?

Oh and the SD card is *soooo* useful...you know, in case you need to transfer the result of 2+2 to your PDA. Oi vey.

My conclusion: Product designers at HP have no sense of utility.

wallpaper [03 Aug 2003|11:57pm]
[ mood | amused ]

Why are straight guys obsessed with desktop wallpaper pictures of naked women? I mean, most gay guys don't keep pictures of well-endowed men posing on their computers...at least I don't think...

Anyhow, I'm sitting in a diner right now. My friend brought his Motorola T720 phone with T-mobile, which has 9600 baud connectivity to the Internet. His phone is connected to his laptop through USB, which is connected to my laptop via 802.11g WiFi at 54 megabits/sec. We both have our mice out and our Starcraft CDs in. This is exhiliarating. I'm psyched. Time to kick some Protoss ass! (Do they have asses? They don't seem to have mouths.)

... I'll upload this entry once the game is done and I can write a nice synopsis...

Well, it's official. This layout stinks! I'm going to make the content section autostretch to take up the whole browser window so you aren't limited to this tiny viewport. I'm sorry for the temporary inconvenience--I was too distracted by Justin to work on the functionality of the layout... :o)

why gay_writers sucks so much. [02 Aug 2003|12:26pm]
[ mood | awake ]
[ music | Dido - Hunter ]

It's all the same--hundreds of boring people writing about their boring lives. Most importantly, they write about just one boring part of their boring crappy lives. "I want a real boyfriend" blah blah blah whine whine whine. Why don't these people learn how to write something that might be worth sharing for once. I'm removing the damned list from my friends list until they get some creative writers on there. Anyone wanting to view my writing can ask me, it's not for public exhibition just yet.

Speaking of my writing, would anyone care to comment on ways to copyright such material strongly? I mean, if I just send it in to the LoC for copyright, then someone can change a few words and still not be infringing copyright...I guess in today's world the independent writer truly does get !@#$ed over.

Oh well. *grunt* At least I got to run my 8 miles today...wee, I'm actually in a much happier mood than it seems above, it's just that I'm sitting in such an odd posture and I'm all hot, sticky, and sweaty here until the shower frees itself. Little siblings take too much time in there...

new toys [01 Aug 2003|05:36pm]
Today I bought a 256mb Secure Digital card for a project. I plan to use it to carry around development projects from place to place, and it's so tiny and so damned cool that I'll probably end up keeping it. It's immediate use will be for a sexy WML and web clipping demonstration for a new interface to a site I'm working on. Joy.

the G-d function [01 Aug 2003|01:30am]
I will henceforth mathematically prove that G-d exists, that G-d did not sacrifice much for "us", that He is above sin, and that He is greater than man.

Now to get it on paper. Proof arriving mid-August.

Comments on possible submissions for assistance with said theorem/proof will be accepted in the comments section. Comments on the acceptability/viability of such a proof will have to wait until mid-August please. Thank you.

Eric [30 Jul 2003|08:41am]
And another one joins the masses: Eric, from my college-to-be has just recently joined LJ. I've been meaning to talk to him more often, but never get the chance (because of our hectic schedules). Anyhow, he's a native Floridian with an addictive personality and great brain...oh, and he's very good looking, too. :o)
